With the Switch 2 launch just days away, Pokémon fans have been treated to a flood of exciting updates!
Scarlet & Violet

Around the time of the console’s announcement trailer, it was confirmed that Pokémon Scarlet & Violet would receive a free upgrade patch aimed at enhancing performance and visuals, for the Switch 2. The latest trailer highlights dramatic improvements, showcasing the once infamous Lake of Lag now completely smooth, glitch free and with an abundance of wild Pokémon thriving along its banks. No sight of the just as infamous “Three Frames Per Sometime” windmill though – we’ll have to wait until June 5th to see that particular difference! Check out the trailer below!
The trailer has sparked overwhelmingly positive reactions across social media, with many praising it as the version Pokémon Scarlet & Violet should have launched with. One X user even shared a striking side by side comparison of the showcased areas on Switch 2 versus the original Switch—highlighting just how drastic the improvements truly are
Infamous leaker Centro has uncovered an intriguing detail—revealing that this patch was originally scheduled for a 2023 release. If true, it suggests that the Switch 2 may have been delayed by around two years, adding weight to the idea that this enhanced version of the game was always meant to launch much earlier. We’ll be touching on this topic in an upcoming article on Pokémon Champions, so stay tuned!

Pokémon ZA

I absolutely loved Legends Arceus, so I couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming release of Legends ZA! Finally… finally! We finally have a release date! October 16th is the day for all us boomer Pokémon uncs to use our annual leave for some well earned gaming time! Plus, a Nintendo Direct livestream is reportedly set for June 5th… could we get more information on this title?

Pokémon Unite

A new balance patch for Pokémon Unite has just been announced… curiously timed to coincide with the Switch 2’s release. According to Pokémon’s official site, here are some of the changes coming to the game:

The remaining buffs & nerfs can be found on Pokémon’s official website! Have any changes been made to your mains?
So far, there’s been no official mention of performance upgrades for Pokémon Unite on the Switch. Currently, the game runs at a mostly stable 60 FPS during gameplay, though menu navigation tends to be sluggish. My guess? The Switch 2’s hardware will smooth out those menu issues naturally so…no patch required? The one we’re all waiting for is the release of the Chinese version here in the West. We’ll know for sure on July 5!
